Walking into a new dental practice for the first time can feel like a lot, especially when you’re not sure what paperwork to fill out, what to bring, or what your first hour there will actually look like. Knowing what to expect ahead of time takes the guesswork out of the process and allows you to focus on your health instead of logistics.
At Lexington Family Smiles, we built our new patient experience around making that first visit as smooth as possible, from the forms you’ll complete beforehand to the conversation you’ll have with our team about your goals for your smile. Whether you’re bringing your whole family or coming in on your own, we want your first appointment to feel less like paperwork and more like the start of a relationship with a dental team that gets to know you.
Completing your paperwork before you arrive is one of the easiest ways to make your first visit go faster. Our new patient forms cover your dental and medical history, current medications, and any allergies or health conditions we should know about before we begin treatment.
We recommend filling these out at home when you have time to think through the details rather than rushing through them in our waiting room. If you run into trouble downloading or submitting the forms, give our office a call, and we will get you a copy that works for you.
A little preparation goes a long way toward a smooth first appointment. Along with your completed new patient forms, we ask that you bring a few key items with you.
First-time patients should bring a photo ID, insurance cards, and a form of payment to their initial appointment. Having these items ready when you arrive means less time spent on administrative details and more time getting your questions answered.
Your first visit with us typically includes a conversation about your dental history and any concerns you’d like to address, followed by a comprehensive exam. We use a Shining 3D scanner to capture a precise digital map of your mouth, which means no messy impression putty, along with digital X-ray sensors that produce clear images while keeping radiation exposure low.
From there, our team will walk you through what we found and talk with you about next steps, whether that means scheduling a cleaning, discussing restorative treatment options, or simply confirming that everything looks healthy. We designed our office to feel calm rather than clinical, with soothing colors and a coastal-inspired atmosphere, because we know that a little comfort makes a big difference for patients who feel anxious about dental visits. If a dental issue comes up unexpectedly between regular visits, our emergency dentistry team is also available to get you scheduled quickly. Our goal is for you to leave your first appointment with a clear understanding of your oral health and a plan that makes sense for your life.
We want our financial and scheduling policies to be as straightforward as our clinical care. We accept cash, checks, and all major credit and debit cards, though we are not currently set up to process mobile payments. For patients paying out of pocket, exact cash amounts help us keep things simple at checkout.
We participate in dental insurance through an advocacy group that negotiates stronger reimbursement rates on your behalf, and our team will verify your benefits before your visit whenever possible. If you’re uninsured or looking for an alternative to traditional coverage, our Dental Savings Plan offers a membership-based option with no waiting periods or claim forms. We also offer financing through Cherry, CareCredit, and Sunbit for patients who want to spread out the cost of treatment. On the scheduling side, we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, which helps us keep availability open for other patients in our community.
We know that choosing a new dental home is about more than just finding an available appointment time. It’s about finding a team that takes the time to explain things clearly, respects your schedule, and treats your family the way they’d want to be treated themselves. From cleanings for children to restorative work for grandparents, we built our practice to be the kind of place where every generation of your family can get the care they need under one roof, and we’re proud to welcome patients from across the greater Lexington area.
Contact our office today to schedule your appointment and experience comprehensive, compassionate general and preventive dentistry right here in Lexington, SC. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to Lexington Family Smiles.
